CBC vil ikke være dårligere enn NRK – Begynner med BitTorrent på mandag

CBC logo Spennende tider! Det har knapt gått to måneder siden NRK, takket være de bra folka på NRKbeta, kunne smykke seg med tittelen som verdens første store mediehus som bruker BitTorrent til å distribuere video (Jeg ser nå at jeg gjorde alt for lite ut av hvor stort og fantastisk dette er i blogginnlegget mitt om saken. Shame on me.), og allerede nå får de følge! Det er CBC som nå annonserer at de på mandag vil distribuere siste episode av serien Canada's Next Great Prime Minister via BitTorrent, gratis, fritt, og uten DRM (format har ikke blitt nevnt, forhåpentligvis følger de NRK der også og velger en åpen standard som du ikke trenger bestemt operativsystem/programvare for å spille av)! Det ekstra kule er at de ikke bare følger i NRKs fotspor, men at de til og med hevder å ha blitt inspirert av dem via denne posten på Boing Boing! Det kommer ikke som noen overraskelse på meg at det nettopp ble CBC som ble nummer to med bruk av BitTorrent. For å være ærlig hadde jeg nesten regnet med at de kom til å være først ute, for de har vært flinke med fremtidsrettede og internett-vennlige ting den siste tiden, sånn som bl.a. radioprogrammene og podcastene Search Engine og Spark, som faktisk blir laget ved hjelp av en wiki (ja, det stemmer, du kan redigere "manus" til et program som blir sendt på Canadas offentlige radiostasjon)! Men jeg er selvsagt veldig fornøyd med at Norge/NRK slo dem, og til og med inspirerte dem!

Uansett, hurra for NRK og CBC, måtte dere i en nær fremtid legge ut alt dere produserer på torrent (eller andre måter på nettet om det passer best til det formålet/om det har kommet en bedre metode)! Hvem blir den neste til å ta steget inn i nåtiden?

Det som blir spennende nå, dersom dette blir utbredt er hvordan kommersielle kanaler skal holde følge med dette. Jeg ser for meg at man kan forvente tilsvarende lanseringer, men i programmene som lanseres vil det dukke opp reklame underveis.

Ja, jeg tror nok det er det som blir løsningen. Et annen mulighet er jo at de kan lage sine egne proprietære torrent-klienter som krever at du laster ned torrenten fra deres egen nettside, hvor de viser deg reklame, og kanskje klienten selv også kan vise reklame mens du laster ned. Da kan de beholde noe kontroll, ved å la det bli gratis og like enkelt tilgjengelig som det piratkopierte. Men det skaper nok ikke nok inntekter, så reklame inni programmene ser jeg på som veldig sansynlig. Det jeg er mest redd for er egentlig at det vil føre til enorme mengder produktplassering, en form for reklame som jeg ikke liker så godt.
